One week ago I was sitting in my office and it looked like this...
It's messy and cluttered but that is how my office looks when I'm creating and in the middle of a class.
This is what my office looks like now...
Thats right, it's empty. And no I'm not moving again. Everything had to be moved out because our house was hit by a tornado...yep...you are reading that right. A tornado. And it quite literally took the roof off. The entire back half of the house was ripped open and our roof is currently sitting in the yard across the street. Of course it was raining at the time so the family room, hallway and our master bedroom had rain pouring in, awesome.
The good news is that we are all fine, and the front half of the roof stayed on so a few rooms were spared. Friends and our insurance agent were there in moments and helped us move everything we could into dry places. I can never thank them enough. And I've never been more thankful for insurance in my life than I am right now. And seriously I'll let you know again in the future after all the repairs are finished but if you live in San Antonio and need insurance, state farm and in particular our agent, is the best!
Right now they have packed the whole house and they are going to replace the floors, ceilings, walls, and furniture. So everything had to be moved out into storage. We are at a hotel. And everything is fine. I just won't be posting as often.
After loosing a lot of our belongings 8 months ago and buying all new furniture for our family room and having this happen I'm starting to think that the universe is trying to teach me a lesson. It's been a very unlucky year for us...it can only go up from here right? Please?

Candice:
Hang in there and it has to go up! I'm glad your family is safe and that you have awesome neighbors and a great insurance agent!

Hi Candice,
I can't believe your house was hit by a tornado!
I feel so bad for you guys. I really hope that you aren't stressing too much about getting comments done for class. Please don't!
You look so pretty in your office pre-disaster photo. :)
And yes, things have to start going up from here. Hang in there.

Um...your makeup in that picture looks really good! (sorry I never got back to you...watching kids sucks the life out of me...and my brain.) Sarah called to tell me about your house. That is just crappy. At least you have insurance, right?
Posted by: chloe | June 07, 2010 at 10:18 AM
Good lord! Hang in there. Your family will all definitely laugh about this crazy epic year later on.

Oh my gosh Candice! I'm so sorry to hear about your house. You've definitely had a rough start in SA. Thankfully your family is ok. Hang in there! :)
p.s good to hear about having a good insurance agent. My hubby and I are actually shopping around for a new agent because we are not happy with ours, so I maybe we will look into State Farm.

I took your portraiture class and loved it and was thrilled to hear you moved to Texas (being a born Texan myself). How on earth did your house get hit by a tornado when you have only lived in Texas less than a year!!! This run of bad luck has GOT to be over, right?!? Best of luck with the reconstruction. Hang in there, the Lord has to have a great reason for all this mayhem!

My goodness! We all were talking about your tornado at our last mom's night out here in Brooklyn. So glad everything is fine, relatively speaking. But my gosh, you guys must have some awesome blessings waiting just around the corner cuz, like you said, first the move and then this! You look great with long hair, btw.

Wow. That is crazy, especially because of all the other crazy stuff that has happened to you this past year! I hope everything gets sorted out soon!

Holy. Smoke! Glad that everyone is safe, that is the most important thing. I'll add y'all to my prayers and hope that everything gets sorted and taken care of quickly and without too much aggrivation or expense.

Totally crazy! Can't believe it. I've been in Texas now almost ten years and the closest I've come to one was when I was in Target while I was 8 months pregnant! But it's been one of my worst fears...I am so happy you guys are okay. Hang in there and hope to take your portraiture class when everything gets straightened out. Take care!

um wow! that's about all i can say is "wow". my prayers are with you and your family.

Candice, how scary! I am so sorry that you are facing another crisis of the tangible kind. I always have to remind myself that it is only stuff ( but I do get attached to my "stuff" ). I am thankful that you are all safe and no one was injured. That is a blessing! Hang in there, it has to go up from here...

I am so glad you are alright Candice! Were you home when it happened? We just had a flood here not too long ago, and lost everything in our basement, and had it torn out (for sure not as bad!) But I too, am very thankful for insurance!!

We are relieved to know that you and your family are safe. So sorry though about your house and all your stuff. What a rough year for you guys! Chin up, though. I'm sure it will all be better from now on. If not, then just move back to Brooklyn! You guys are sorely missed! -I know, I know... if only it were that easy... Best regards, The Motzings -Bill, Martha and Liam.
